Second Trimester In The French Riviera

How lucky was I to spend 10 days of my pregnancy drowning in gelato and baguette?? The only downside was having to avoid the cheese. The cheese is not pasteurized in France. K no. How lucky was I to spend 10 days of my pregnancy drowning in gelato and baguette?? The only downside was having to avoid the cheese. The cheese is not pasteurized in France.

K no. The REAL downside was being sober.

Sorry, but it was.

I am not a drunk, people. But I love a good cocktail on vacation and seeing others sip a bright orange, bubbly Aperol Spritz in the sticky humidity right next to me was cruel.

The other half of the Butler’s got hammered on our flight home and couldn’t seem to remember the grade school concept of “inside voices”. He ate all the crackers (or the flight attendant just cut him off after seven packs… but why not cut him off of the wine?) and received numerous dirty looks from the surrounding passengers. I honestly couldn’t help but cover my face and laugh/cry. *Cut to flight scene in Bridesmaids*.

Regardless… we had an amazing time. This trip sort of dueled as our honeymoon and babymoon. I was 19 – 20 weeks pregnant and my bump had really just popped. I felt great, never got swollen feet and left no carb behind!

We started off in Nice, visited Monaco / Monte Carlo, Eze Village and then ended the trip in the quieter town of Antibes. We spent most days lounging on the beach, reading books, feasting on melon and prosciutto (I know, I know I wasn’t supposed to eat that). Our hotel arranged an amazing cooking class for us where we got to explore the massive food market in Nice. In Monaco, we spent some time in the casinos and walking the marina. Coincidentally, my childhood best friend and her boyfriend were staying a couple hotels down from us in Nice, so us four Ubered up to Eze Village together, saw incredible architecture and views and ate a delicious dinner (Niçoise salads are my FAVE). Antibes was the perfect end to the trip. We just chilled.

I don’t know if it was the altitude or what, but the flight home was also the very first time I felt Cannon kick!!!! Can I say that this was the highlight of the trip??Everyone says the second trimester is by far the best… you’ve gotten through the physical difficulties of the first trimester and you’re not struggling to get out of bed like in the third trimester. Oddly enough, for me, the second trimester was the second best one.

Overall, weeks 13-28 were pretty uneventful. I felt massive, bloated, gassy, uncomfortable and the acid reflux began. I was getting off the mental rollercoaster ride that was the first trimester and boarding the physical one. I wasn’t even close to being big but I sure felt like it. And just the feeling of being bloated and uncomfortable sucks. I didn’t feel that way in my third trimester like I did in the second!

Lastly, I turned 28 in this tri.

Again, probably the most uneventful trimester. Check out some of the places we visited and things we did in France below!
